Anxiety attacks cause a feeling of helplessness which can be so intense and frightening for the individual. The individual feels unable to control these anxiety symptoms, and which often times controls the individual.

- Feelings of overwhelming fear
- You Feel like you are going crazy or losing control of your life
- Have Feeling that you are in serious danger
- You feel like passing out
- You have an urgency to escape from the stressful situation

There are majorly six (6) types of anxiety disorders.
Each presents with its own unique anxiety symptom. These anxiety disorders are listed as follows:
- Generalized anxiety disorder
When you are constantly plagued by fears and worries which disrupt your day to day activities, or constantly fear something bad is about to happen, then you might be suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
Individuals with this type of anxiety disorder constantly feel anxious all the time, and present with physical anxiety symptoms like:
- Pounding heart.
- Stomach upset or dizziness.
- Frequent urination and diarrhea
- Shortness of breath.
- Tremors and twitches.
- Muscle tension.
- Anxiety attacks (panic disorder)
Panic disorders are characterized by unsuspecting panic attacks, and fear of and future episode. People with panic disorders also experience a morbid fear for open places where there are not comfortable because of fear of any attack.
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD)
An individual with OCD experiences an intense obsession that sometimes seem impossible to control. These individuals keep repeating the same over and over again because worry or have fears that they might hurt somebody.
They also experience uncontrolled compulsions like cleaning the house over and over again.
A phobia is the morbid fear of a situation, object, activity or place that causes little or no harm. In cases of intense phobia, the individual goes a long way to avoid the object of his fears.
Avoiding these fears only strengthens it and gives it more control over the person.
- Social anxiety disorder
Individuals with this anxiety disorder suffer from extreme shyness. There are always afraid of being humiliated or seen negatively. This can also be termed as social phobia.
Most times, the individual completely avoids social situation or functions.
Stage fright or performance anxiety is the most common form of social phobia
- Post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD)
This is the type of anxiety attacks that results from the aftermath experiencing a traumatic or life-threatening situation.
PTSD can occur as a form of panic attack that can be devastating. The individual experiences flashbacks or have nightmares of the traumatic event.
The individual begins to withdraw into himself and goes to any length to avoid any event that will cause him to remember the event.
Most times, individual with PTSD also suffer from depression.
How to treat anxiety disorders, anxiety attacks
These are helpful tips on how to reduce anxiety symptom and anxiety attacks:
- Making out time each day to relax and have some fun
- Getting adequate emotional support
- Take care of your health and eat healthily
- Reduce some of the responsibilities so as to reduce the stress you put yourself through
- Always ask for help when you need it, there is no shame in it.
- Confide in someone you trust
- Talking about the stressful situations makes them less fearful and can even give you ideas on how to resolve them.
- Connect with others. Loneliness and isolation breed anxiety. Talk to friends, make new friends or you can join a support group to share your fears and concerns.
- Practice some relaxation techniques. Such as meditation, muscle relaxation, and deep breathing this can reduce anxiety symptoms and increase feelings of relaxation.
- Exercise regularly. Exercise helps the body to relax and relieves the symptoms of anxiety. Exercise for at least 30 minutes of four times in a week.
- Get enough sleep. A lack of sleep can make you stressed and anxious. get seven to nine hours of quality sleep a night.
- Reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake. Reduce your caffeine intake or cut it out completely. Same with alcohol, this makes anxiety worse.
- Seek professional help for treatment of anxiety disorders. When anxiety attacks begins to affect your day to day activities. The treatment for anxiety disorders depends on the type of anxiety disorder and the manifesting sign and symptoms of anxiety.
